8/21/12: Left Port Washington to make sure we hit Hell Gate at a favorable current. We past multiple bridges and barges. The Hell Gate passage was smooth. We went by Ryker's Island...there are sure alot of bad boys in New York. We past the UN, Chrysler, Empire State buildings. So different to see them from the water. As we rounded the corner we went by NYC Medical Center which is massive. Further down the river we could see the new Freedom Tower under construction. We reflected on the tragedy of the loss of the Twin Towers and 9/11. As we continued down the East River we went by the Seaport and Pier 17 also going under the Manhattan & Brooklyn Bridges. We then came out to where the Hudson River joined the East River and were gifted with incredible views of "TheLady" Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The helicopter port was quite impressive from the water with helo's taking off & landing right over us. After all these magnificent sights we headed out of the New York Harbor under the the Verrazano-Narrows bridge past Coney Island headed to Atlantic Highlands/Sandy Hook,Nj for the night.
