What?! It's Friday again?

Where oh where does the time go! We are settling nicely on Island/Key Time.
First order of business this week was to rent a car to run errands and get a mani/pedi to lose the sailor hands and feet. I had to get gussied up for our  date night. We went out for a dinner of  hot fudge brownie sundaes and to Home Depot! The ultimate!!

 We have been able to explore the area a little more with the car, but the bus, taxi and our feet are really able to get us wherever we need to go. We had a nice time with the Waterway Net, Ham radio operators at their weekly lunch at LazyDays. I tried the Lionfish for the first time and it was pretty yummy.

Tom had their huge burger. It was a fun group and we will try to go weekly while we are here.

We have explored most of Marathon this week and we are very happy we chose this marina with all of their amenities. It is very comfortable. Some of the sailor's have shared, they have come here several years in a row. We enjoyed Happy Hour at Sunset Grille in Knight's Key last night. Pretty view and cool breezes.

We are invited to Happy Hour on our dock tonight,  where our neighbors here will all bring an appetizer and we will hang out on the dock chillaxing and getting to know each other better!

It is so important to stay hydrated here. My go to drink during the day is Diet Snapple and my new favorite at night are the  Keylime coolattas! Yum

April 6,2015 : Happy Monday!

It is another beautiful sunny warm day here in Marathon. We enjoyed time over the weekend with our new iguana friend.

Stayed poolside most of the weekend and enjoyed the cool breezes and sunsets at the boat. We had a wonderful Island meal at LazyDays near the marina.

We both enjoyed a monster salad with coconut shrimp and panko fried cream cheese with glazed nuts, apples and grapes. It was so yummy! Happy Hour is awesome here with great cocktails and tasty treats. I could get use to this life in a snap!!!

I see why so many boaters love this place. They also have a very nice RV section next to the pool and resort cabins here also.

 Tom & I hung out in the Captains lounge to watch the semi final Women's basketball game on the big screen. Go Huskie's!! We plan to watch the Men's game tonight. Tom & I both are  cheering for Wisconsin. We watched the exciting semi final game.

We looked at a Cabo Rico 38 sailboat today. Nice layout but too many things that need serious work. The hunt continues! We had some interest in our boat....so we will see where the sailor's quest will lead us! So many places to explore here. We rent a car tomorrow to help with our exploration of  other areas near here. Time for another glorious sunset.

4/3/15: Good Friday at Marathon Marina

We arrived in Marathon yesterday just before sunset. We will move to an outside slip tomorrow so we can enjoy the nightly sunsets from our boat.  After  several loads of laundry we explored the resort Marina we will stay at for the next month. We have enjoyed the beautiful pool most of the day. We will probably do that tomorrow and the day after that........

Marina Del Mar: Key Largo,FL

We said goodbye to our friends The Welch's & Chuck Wargo as they head north on the sailboat : "Charisma"  it is spelled in Greek on their boat.

We had a short but very nice visit. TomKat decided to stay another night to enjoy this sweet Key.   There are so many dive ,snorkel and fishing boats in and out of here.The African Queen boat went out for a cruise. It was the original boat used in the movie.

 I see why Jimmy Buffet sang about this area. Next blog will be from Marathon.

3/30/15: Anchored No Name Harbor at the southern tip of Key Biscayne Key. Key Largo tomorrow.

Nice anchorage and sunset in No Name Harbor.

3/31/15: Uneventful sail to Key Largo. Passed sailboats going north and south. Needed to anchor outside the entrance to Key Largo to wait for the tide due to our 5.5 draft. Tom was on the phone with the dockmaster for further instructions. Tricky maneuvers here.  

Once we were able to get by "crash corner" as the locals call it. We literally entered paradise. With many spectacular canal homes.

We met up with our friends and enjoyed a nice reunion catching up, with a leisurely dinner at Sharkey's.

3/28/15 headed off shore. Next stop the Keys

3/24/15 to 3/27/15 in North Palm Beach Marina

We explored Vero Beach for 2 days by shuttle bus to area shops and the beach. The highlight of the beach trip was seeing a huge fish jump out of the water a few times. Tarpon?.

We continue to meet so many nice people from all over mostly headed north. Our favorite meal so far has been chicken parm. and brownies!! It paid off freezing leftovers from meals we had prior to leaving. It has made it easy on the matie so far.

 Kathy purchased a new lime green snorkel set at the dive shop, since the blue one is in a place we have not looked yet!!! We caught up on boat chores, laundry and will set out early for Hobe Sound. The monkees picked out a great book for me. I have already finished " true colors" by Kristen Hannah. It was hard to put down.

I started a new book "The Elegant Gathering of White Snows" by Kris Radish, which is a fun read so far. I've also started a few art projects. I'm glad I brought lots to do, it's keeping me out of the Captain's hair!!! We made a quick stop in Ft. Pierce to top off our ice. It was the best slide by hand off that we  have ever done. No stinking stopping for TomKat! It was awesome! The Ft. Pierce and St. Lucie inlets were  full of dolphins. Tom let the First Matie take control for a bit. She even wore the appropriate boating apparel!

It was an overcast but we made it to Hobe Sound anchorage dry. We have seen many osprey nests all along the ICW. They are entertaining to watch as they circle around and back to their nests. Tom went swimming at our anchorage, where the water was warm & clean. Kathy passed on this activity!  Sunrises and sunsets have been spectacular. With lots of gulf stream clouds in the distance.

 Jupiter Inlet lighthouse was a grand sight as we cruised by. I have many songs by Glenn Yarborough stuck in my head as we meander down the ICW. My "Altered Sister" BJ made me a copy of his CD that I put on my Ipod. I'm enjoying it immensely! Thank you!

 We headed to North Palm Beach Marina after 6 bridges in 14 miles.

We needed to wait for half of them so not too bad. Arrived about 2 hours before torrential rain hit. I had already taken a shuttle to publix and waded back to the van with our supplies! We will stay for 2 night due to weather and hopefully head just off shore to head south.
